Sharing fury over selfish revellers

Sir.-Paul Clarke complains of nightly noise keeping him awake in Crown Heights.

We suffer the same problem in Cliddesden Road, though perhaps to a lesser extent, as people walk home after a night in a pub or club.

Of course, people are fully entitled to go out and have a good time, but I do wonder why they can't exercise a little thought for others as they go home.

Some are very drunk and clearly not able to think, or indeed walk, straight. Others are quite sober, but still seem unable to understand that the houses they are passing late at night contain residents who would like to be asleep.

The fascinating thing about all this is that, although the undisturbed night's rest of others is of no importance to these people, if you went round to their houses and made the same noise, they would be absolutely spitting mad.

Yet they still can't exercise a little thought and consideration for anyone else.

We live in a very overcrowded country; the Government requires ridiculous amounts of over-dense development. Unless we can behave in a caring and courteous manner towards each other, life will be very unpleasant.

Sadly, it seems there are very few people who understand this.
