Music making of the highest form

First published in Letters

Sir.–May I through your newspaper express sincere congratulations to David Gibson and the members of the Basingstoke Choral Society, who delighted The Anvil audience last Sunday with such a wonderful performance of Handel’s Messiah.

Flowing effortlessly from beginning to end, we will have to wait a long time to hear a better performance anywhere.

With four excellent soloists and the splendid Hanover Band, we were privileged to be present and to experience this marvellous work given such passionate treatment.

How fortunate we were to be present and how fortunate Basingstoke is to experience music making of the very highest standards.

–David Ogborn, Chairman, Basingstoke Festival of Choirs.
