Sir.–With so much bad news and uncertainty about the NHS, we thought readers would like to hear about a little known aspect of NHS Foundation Trusts – the part that governors and members play in ensuring that the needs of local communities are met.
Public governors are elected by their fellow members. Their job is to represent the interests of local people and contribute to the Foundation Trust’s strategy.
Foundation Trust membership is free and open to anyone over 16. Members come from all walks of life and include patients, their families and interested members of our local community.
Hampshire Hospitals sends all members a regular newsletter and holds local events with talks on health topics where members can meet their governors.
We, the governors, would be delighted to attend meetings of local groups to explain our role and talk about developments at your local hospitals. We’d like to invite everyone living in our area to be part of a community of thousands of members of Hampshire Hospitals. All the governors are listed on the website hampshirehospitals.nhs.uk along with details about membership and how to join.
