AWARD-winning foursome Pappy’s Fun Club are bringing their show to Basingstoke.
After performing across London, the comedy team – consisting of Ben Clark, Brendan Dodds, Tom Parry and Matthew, who met at university – took their one-hour show Fun to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006, and have not looked back since.
They were nominated for the If.comedy Award in 2007, last year won the Chortle Award for Best Sketch Act and have had numerous appearances on television and radio, including Radio Four and on the Comedy Lab for Channel Four.
“We have been on mostly one-off specials,” said Matthew. “But it’s all been great, and very exciting.”
They are now on tour with Pappys Fun Club at venues across the UK.
Matthew said: “We have created our own world in the show and the good thing about going on tour is you get to do it for a bit longer.
“At comedy clubs, you are following two other middle-class guys talking into microphones about their girlfriends, so people get a bit weirded out by the four of us, but in a show we can invite the audience in.”
All four of them grew up with ambitions to work in comedy.
Matthew said: “People assume we can’t be older than 21 or 22, probably because of our attitude and because the show is a bit studenty, but we are all in our late 20s.
“Brendan’s going to be 30 this year and is getting married – you’d think he would have found something else than making a living out of leaping around in a tutu!”
The show is coming to The Forge on February 27, and tickets, at £10, can be booked from the Anvil Arts box office on 01256 844244 or at anvilarts.org.uk.
