Shock murder is recounted in play

3:30pm Thursday 5th February 2009

BASINGSTOKE young people’s group, Freedom Youth, are putting on a production of The Laramie Project, between February 18 and 20, at Central Studio.

The play chronicles the life of the town of Laramie, Wyoming, USA, in the year following the murder of a young gay man, who was discovered bound to a fence having been savagely beaten and left to die, on October 7, 1998.

The murder shocked the nation and in The Laramie Project eight actors embody more than 60 different people, from ranchers to university professors, in a portrayal that dispels simplistic media stereotypes and explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

Tickets, priced at £6, or £4 concessions, can be booked at Central Studio box office, on 01256 418318, or from www. centralstudio.co.uk.
