A GROUP of local dancers travelled to London’s Royal Albert Hall recently to participate in ‘The Stars’ in the Round.

Over 60 students of North Hampshire Academy of Dance (NHAD), which is based in Central Studio at QMC, Basingstoke, were part of a 1500-strong company which took to the stage of the famous venue.

The group, ranging in age from four years to adult, took part in a five-minute choreographed dance entitled Hercules, a performance they’d been rehearsing for months prior to the event.

The dancers, who were watched by a team of supporters from Basingstoke including many of their parents, were also part of two finales.

The show was compered by West End star Nic Greenshields, whose credits include Les Miserables, Billy Elliot and Miss Saigon.

The event was organised by Mardi Gras, a company which gives children the opportunity to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious venues.

NHAD was one of over 20 dance schools from across the country to take part in this production.

Principal of NHAD Kelly Hopkins said: “This was the second time that NHAD has had the chance to participate in this show.

“It has been wonderful for all of our students to have this opportunity and I am immensely proud of them all.”
