TALKING Scarlet presents The End of the Affair at The Haymarket next week.

Starring Neil Roberts (Holby City), George Telfer (Emmerdale) and Sarah Stanley, don’t miss this stunning adaptation of Graham Greene’s award-winning novel, adapted by acclaimed writer and artistic director Rupert Goold (Almeida Theatre).

The year is 1939. Britain is at war. And a tumultuous, passionate, illicit and liberating love affair is about to begin that will carry a tragic price tag.

Maurice Bendrix, a rising writer, meets Sarah Miles, the wife of an impotent civil servant in London just before the outbreak of the war.

Bendrix is loosely based on Greene himself, and Sarah is based loosely on Greene's mistress at the time, Catherine Walston, to whom the book is dedicated.

Maurice and Sarah fall in love quickly, but he soon realises that the affair will end as quickly as it began when Sarah breaks off the liaison with no explanations.

With Bendrix’s jealousy beginning to take hold, he sets out to find the truth and soon learns that Sarah’s decision to end the affair is not for the reasons he imagined.

See the production in Basingstoke from Wednesday, May 6 until Saturday 9.
