“I HAVE always loved to perform and enjoyed taking part in shows at school.

I went on to study drama at university in Bristol.

After a couple of years out I joined BAOS and this is my third show with them. Last year I was Muzzy in Thoroughly Modern Millie and the previous year was my initiation show with approximately 10 costume changes!

Tracy Turnblad is my first main part. At 30-years-old, I am so excited to get this opportunity and I have enjoyed every second.

She is such a joy to play, with her big heart and positive outlook on life - I can’t help but feel happy when I am performing.

I have really enjoyed getting to know the Limelighters (BAOS’ youth strand) and working with them is so much fun. They are all so talented and full of enthusiasm.

A special mention must go to my leading man Link (Connor McGrane) and best friend Penny (Hazel Baldwin) - I know that they’ll both go far!

Hairspray is a wonderful show with big dance numbers and feelgood music but we can’t forget the message behind all the glitz. Segregation in the 1960s was the norm. Tracy’s stand against it is a brave and bold thing to do, especially for a young girl.

I hope that I am like Tracy in real life. I always stand up for what I believe in and have a positive outlook.

It has been a joy to be part of the show.”

Siobhan plays Tracy Turnblad in Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society’s new show Hairspray, which runs in The Haymarket from March 16-21.
