A FAST-paced adaptation of Hamlet performed by just three actors in 75-minutes arrives at The Watermill theatre for a weeklong run this month.

See this Outreach production from Monday, October 13 to Friday 17.

When his father dies suddenly in suspicious circumstances, Hamlet returns home to find that his mother has married his uncle, who now rules Denmark in his father’s place.

Torn between desire for revenge and loyalty to his mother, gripped by indecision, Hamlet must forge a new future for himself and Denmark.

Shakespeare’s masterpiece about a young man poised on the brink of a series of cataclysmic decisions is brought sharply to life by The Watermill.

An ideal introduction to Shakespeare, this production is in a contemporary setting, and follows the success of The Watermill’s previous educational tours of Romeo + Juliet, Othello, and Faustus.

Adaptor and director of Outreach Beth Flintoff said today: “We have created this production with a simple aim: to pass on our own enthusiasm for Shakespeare. We hope to reach as many people - particularly young people - as possible, with an affordable, accessible production of a play that we think everyone ought to experience”.

The cast features James Cooney as Hamlet, Neal Craig as Claudius/Polonius/Laertes and Elizabeth Crarer as Ophelia/Gertrude.

Tickets: £7.50-12.50, £10 (Under 25s)
