THE Boundary Players’ next production is Michael Frayn’s Copenhagen.

In 1941, Werner Heisenberg - then head of the German nuclear programme - visited his Danish friend and mentor Niels Bohr in Copenhagen.

From 1924 until 1927, Heisenberg had been Bohr’s closest assistant and - during this period - they had revolutionised atomic physics with their work on quantum mechanics and the uncertainty principle.

But the world changed and the two men found themselves on opposite sides in a world war. The meeting was fraught with danger, embarrassment and ended in disaster.

Frayn’s masterpiece – part history, part intellectual thriller and part psychological investigation - explores the mysteries of human motivation.

Why did Heisenberg make the dangerous journey to Copenhagen? What did he say to Bohr? And what was Bohr’s reply?

Here Heisenberg, Bohr and his wife, Margrethe meet once again to work out how we can ever know why we do what we do!

See the production in the William Penney Theatre at Aldermaston Recreation Society in Tadley from October 21-25.
