BASINGSTOKE Amateur Operatic Society would like to welcome interested parties to audition for their 2015 production of Hairspray.

The cast will reflect the diversity of the show’s multi-racial characters and there are principal roles for black actors and actresses, and plenty of action for both dancers and singers.

Behind the catchy songs and energy-packed dances of this popular musical is a serious message about diversity and racial integration in ‘60s America.

Do you have what it takes to be soul singer Motormouth Maybelle, the ultimate party-throwing hostess for the black community? Or her daughter, Lil’ Inez, whom Tracey helps to get her turn in the spotlight? Or could you take the part of Maybelle’s son, Seaweed J. Stubbs?

The producers will also be looking to cast a band of sassy singers to form The Dynamites, a group of female vocalists who appear throughout the show, in addition to the rest of the main roles.

Rehearsals commence on Thursday evenings from October 2 from 7.30pm until 10pm and there will be a dance workshop for all potential cast members on October 23.

Auditions for principal roles will be held on Sunday, October 26.
