CALLING all canine stars!
Basingstoke Amateur Theatrical Society are looking for two suitable dogs (and a third reserve) to play the role of Toto in their forthcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
The dogs will share the role of Toto for ten performances at The Haymarket in November.
BATS are interested in casting a short-haired dog, ideally of terrier breed, e.g. Cairn, Border, Norfolk, Yorkshire (no preferred colour), who is comfortable around people - both adults and children.
The dog should not easily be frightened or distracted by a busy environment, as there will be a lot of on-stage activity for this show.
They should be happy being picked up, as well as being on a lead, and they obviously need to be obedient, demonstrating an ability to concentrate and respond to / follow basic commands.
All interested parties need to attend the audition on Sunday, September 7 from 2pm – 4pm in Christ Church, Chineham. Successful dogs must then attend rehearsals on Monday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 10 from 7.30pm until 10pm in the same venue.
They must also be able to attend additional rehearsals as required on Monday or Wednesday evenings (you will be advised of these in advance) and must be available to perform on any of the 10 performances of the run: November 20, 21, 22 (mat), 22 (eve), 23 (mat), 26, 27, 28, 29 (mat), 29 (eve).
Owners must accompany their dogs during the performance (be in the wings).
To register for auditions, send your dog’s name and picture to BATS by tweeting @BATSBasingstoke, posting on the official BATS Facebook page or emailing pr@ bats.net.
