IT takes a lot for me to leave my cosy home on a cold January night, especially after an afternoon watching my village team, Chobham/Burymead lose 1-0 to Knaphill Athletic.
I could have drowned my sorrows in the clubhouse and wondered home to put my feet up in front of the TV - but no, down in Hampshire something stirred. I made the trip down to the Base in Hook to see Basingstoke band Metanoia.
I first saw these five 16/17 year olds last November at the Point in Fleet and was very impressed. And this night, Metanoia were again not to disappoint. Firing on all cylinders, they produced a blistering set of seven self-penned numbers - Dream, For the Best, Cliche, Crash & Burn, Breakout, Full Stop and What You've Got - which had the 100 or so members of the audience demanding an encore.
Unfortunately, with four other bands above them on the bill Metanoia could not oblige but on this showing they will soon be heading for bigger venues than the Base - no offence as it’s a great place with a fantastic atmosphere.
Lead singer Wilx, guitarist/keyboardist Matt Wilson, lead guitarist Ollie Smith, drummer Charlie Morrison and bassist Matt Morgan are beginning to create a ripple in their local area.
