DON’T miss the Dutch Swing College Band when they appear at The Anvil on May 8 during one of their rare visits to the UK.
Over the years the musicians have changed and today’s vibrant personnel fires up a unique sound – guaranteeing a distinctive and exciting show from eight of the world’s finest traditional jazz musicians.
The Swing College Band (pictured right) first formed in the 1940s, two years before the liberation of The Netherlands, with furtive rehearsals in the cellars of Amsterdam.
The Dutch Swing College Band was officially launched on Liberation Day, May 5, 1945. The group quickly found an international following and since then the band regularly visits all five continents.
From concerts in Cape Town to festivals in Australia, from galas in Canada to arenas in Germany, from television studios in the UK to film sets in India, and from recordings in Amsterdam to royal receptions in The Hague – though the musicians have changed over the years, the band has remained at the top.
