LOVE and music are two things that have always gone hand-in-hand, a certain melody can pull at your heart strings or give you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

With romance also playing a big part of what we consume on the big screen there are now so many iconic songs which symbolise love in the world of film.

On the most romantic day of the year, conductor/composer Carl Davis CBE, pictured, and the Philharmonia Orchestra will take to the stage at the Anvil playing a concert of movie music that overflows with some of the most unforgettable movie love songs of all time.

“It is going to be a very romantic evening, and every piece will break your heart,” the composer told The Gazette.

“I am thrilled to come back to Basingstoke, and it is the ultimate compliment to be asked to come back.

“I think everyone will recognise the songs once they hear them, but what I try and do is a little bit of chat to place it for people and possibly a bit of a laugh.”

Films have been a huge part of Davis’ career as the driving force behind the reinvention of the silent movie for a generation and has written the score to some of the most loved and remembered British television dramas.

More recently, Davis’ acclaimed score for the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice has been adapted for a touring stage production, showing he is no stranger to turning his hand to different types of music.

“A big treat for me on this show is conducting some Abba,” added Davis.

“When I come onto stage there are different things that I want to give the audience, it’s me as the performer, as a composer and a conductor so I am thinking about music a lot and how I can put all this together.

“For I saw no barriers between classical music or something that has more of a beat. The could coexist in different worlds. But in that I think there should be a Davis finger print on what I am doing.”

Love Stories from the Silver Screen will appear at the Anvil on Wednesday, 14 February.
