THE Anvil has a feast of great music lined up in November.

Superstar singer songwriter, and one of Ireland’s most celebrated artists, Imelda May, is at The Anvil on Tuesday, 14 November.

Discovered by Jools Holland, May has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed and Smokey Robinson and can count high profile artists including Bob Dylan and Bono amongst her fans.

Her album Life. Love. Flesh. Blood topped the UK Americana chart and landed number five in the official UK album chart (her second UK top five). One of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2017, the album spent over a month in the top 20 and recently returned to the top ten.

British urban R’n’B act Soul II Soul perform at The Anvil the following evening, November 15. Featuring Jazzie B, Caron Wheeler and their live orchestral band and DJs, and with special guests including Natasha Watts, this is sure to be a night of pure nostalgia.

In 1986, Soul II Soul signed to Virgin and the partnership catapulted them into a tornado of success. The sound was original, fresh and infectious; it was homegrown and from the UK. The hits just kept on coming including Back to Life, Keep on Moving, Get A Life, and Jazzie’s Groove. America embraced them, and in 1990 they picked up two Grammys.

Jazzie B has also produced and re-mixed tracks for the likes of The Fine Young Cannibals, Maxi Priest, Sinead O’Connor and Destiny’s Child to name a few.

Somewhere along the line there’s been a handshake with Prince Charles and Jazzie B even once shared a dressing room with the legendary Sammy Davis Jnr.

To date, Soul II Soul have sold over 6.8 million albums worldwide and Jazzie B has accreditation on over 35 million albums.

John Mayall is back at The Anvil on Friday, 17 November, supported by The Buddy Whittington Band and continuing to play music he loves from a career which spans more than half a century.

For over 50 years, John Mayall has served as a pioneer of blues music, rightly earning him the title, ‘The Godfather of British Blues’.

Regarded by many as blues’ most influential artist, John’s band The Bluesbreakers launched the careers of many true legends including Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green and Mick Taylor.

Sixty-four albums later and John’s captivating and authentic sound is still as vital today is it ever was.
