THE Musical Box, internationally acclaimed for its re-enactment of Genesis' works, comes to The Anvil on Sunday, 15 October to perform The Black Show, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Genesis and featuring the music of Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound.

Exclusively licensed by Gabriel and Genesis, The Musical Box has performed for more than a million spectators worldwide in some of the most prestigious venues such as the London Royal Albert Hall, and had the privilege of receiving Phil Collins and Steve Hackett as performing guests.

Tip top duo Tipitina perform in The Forge on 14 October, delivering their own take on the blues, boogie and gospel of New Orleans. Following their acclaimed debut album I Wish I Was In New Orleans, the pair are now on a roll with Taking Care of Business, recorded at 2011’s Birmingham International Jazz and Blues Festival.

Already the ‘House Full’ signs are going up at Ronnie Scott’s and elsewhere, encouraged by uniformly enthusiastic album reviews, so catch them on their way to the top.

In The Forge the following evening are Lankum (formerly Lynched), a four-piece traditional folk group from Dublin, whose distinctive mix of four-part vocal harmonies and lively arrangements are getting them noticed.

After gaining a reputation for high quality folk music tinged with everything from ambient techno to black metal and punk, the band have become well-known from their debut album Cold Old Fire, a coast-to-coast US tour, a blinding set at Celtic Connections and a stunning appearance on Later... with Jools Holland.

Their repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties and street-songs, classic ballads from the Traveller tradition, traditional Irish and American dance tunes, and their own original material.

Marking the 70th anniversary of the US Air Force, the Bands of the Royal Air Force present a Stars and Stripes flavoured musical tribute to their fellow aviators at The Anvil on October 18.

From Sinatra to Streisand, Basie to Bernstein and featuring the best of Big Band, and Swing, the programme, compered by ‘Voice of the Balls’ Alan Dedicoat, will include Send in the Clowns, Hoe Down, Stars and Stripes March and I Left My Heart in San Francisco.
