THE 1865 may be known by most people in Southampton as one of the city’s premier music venues.

But here it was transformed and played host to the church of Creeper.

The Southampton horror-punks welcomed 750 followers into the sold out venue, where everything you think could have happened, did happen.

Everything from sing-a-longs, tears, crowd surfing, circle pits and even a marriage proposal - frontman from support band Energy, Jason Tankerley, going down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend.

It didn’t take long for Creeper to whip the home town crowd into a frenzy - to be precise all it took was the house lights going out and four crosses being illuminated on stage.

From the moment the intro of ‘Black Rain’ kicked in the energy levels were sky high, with screaming fans singing every word back to the six-piece.

What makes this capacity crowd even more significant for Creeper is that in just over two years, the band were having their first show at the Joiners.

Now their momentum is taking them ever higher.

The crowd were hanging off every word sung by Will Gould and when he told the audience that the bands debut album ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ had reached number 18 in the UK album charts it was met with rapturous applause.

Blasting through songs ‘Poison Pens’ and ‘We Had A Pact’ among others saw the crowd surfing hit peak levels, before be brief break for the hauntingly beautiful ‘Crickets’ when spotlight shone on keyboard player Hannah Greenwood and guitarist Ian Miles for the mesmerising duet.

As the night drew to a close fans were singing the final words to ‘I Choose To Live’ in unison once the band had left the stage.

The words Creeper Cult follow this band and, after witnessing them, that is exactly what they are - a cult, and one whose trajectory is on the way to the moon.
