IT IS strange to think that a little less than a year ago PUP may not have been stood on the Joiners stage.

The band from Toronto, Canada’s future was thrown up in the air when vocalist Stefan Babcock was told he had a cyst on his vocal chords.

Fast forward to a drizzly Friday night in Southampton and the four-piece had a sold-out Joiners in the palm of their hands.

From the opening note of If this tour doesn’t kill you, I will, the crowd was jumping up and down and singing every single word back to Babcock.

This being the bands fifth time visiting the St Mary’s Street venue and they didn’t disappoint, playing all the songs a fan of the punk rock band could ask for.

From new favourite Familiar Patterns– which brought about a human pyramid in the middle of the dance floor – to established classics like Mabu.

PUP’s high energy performance was reflected by the crowd, as the longer the set went on the more frequent the crowd surfing became.

Like all good performers PUP left the best to last as the Joiners burst into life for their final track Reservoir.

As bodies began flying off the stage, Babcock joined in the fun and was carried among the waves of the crowd like a king.

Despite a scare that they may have had to call it a day, everyone present at the Joiners will be glad the Canadians are still going strong and show no sign of letting up.
