THE premiere performance of New Dimensions’ latest commission Songs for Wild Horses has taken place.

Over 30 local musicians joined Norwegian folk musicians, Nils Økland and Øyvind Skarbø for a performance at the Countryside Education Trust’s Treehouses at Beaulieu in the New Forest.

The performance led the audience through a series of spaces as they experienced the new suite of music.

Songs for Wild Horses is one of a series of projects being delivered by New Dimensions.

This partnership between Anvil Arts in Basingstoke and Turner Sims in Southampton aims to find new ways of engaging people in music.

Funded by Hampshire County Council, New Dimensions works with composers, orchestras, groups and musicians in different genres, using music to engage, explore and celebrate local communities.

Nils and Øyvind had been working with the local musicians through a series of workshops and events since March, sharing Norwegian folk songs and lullabies.

Christine Bradwell, chief executive at Anvil Arts, said: “Songs For Wild Horses will have a lasting effect on all who took part. The project was a great showcase for organisations working in partnership to achieve something that would not otherwise have been possible, for the benefit of Hampshire residents”.
