EIGHTIES music greats The Blockheads and Paul Young will headline a brand new Hampshire festival  at the weekend.

The first Graze Festival hits the slopes of Humphreys Estate near Twyford near Winchester on Sunday, August 30.

Alongside the music will be food and drink – hence the name Graze, as well as many family attractions.

The one-day festival is the brainchild of Twyford residents Tim Smith and Roger Walker, along with fellow Twyfordians Oliver Gray, Nick Seagrave and Jonathan Humphrey.

“We want to create a family day out on a friendly scale,” said Tim Smith.

“This is something everyone can enjoy, from 11.00 to 11.00, with all the best entertainment but no threatening crowds.”

Joint music headliners The Blockheads have continued the tradition of clever, funny and get-up-and dance music after the death of lead singer Ian Dury.

1980s teen idol Paul Young is now laying his hat with Los Pacaminos, singing classics and original songs in a rocking TexMex style.

Others on the bill include Red Sky July (featuring members of Texas and Alisha’s Attic), Ezio and folk favourite Darren Black.

Winchester’s Hat Fair will be providing street art and performers will mingle with visitors.

The festival site has two stages for constant entertainment.

Around the site visitors will also find food and drink tents from some of the best local and regional suppliers, children’s entertainment and play area, and drinks from real ale to gin and fizz.

The team behind The Graze Festival have been organising village events in Twyford for some years, but this year decided to “go all out on a bigger budget festival”.

Profits from the day will go to local good causes, especially the young and elderly in the community.

“Twyford is a very generous, inclusive village, and we hope that The Graze Festival will be able to add to all the good works,” said Smith.

“The real aim, though, is to put on a great day out which will be a highlight of the summer.”

There will be a shuttle service from Winchester station and the south park and ride car park to the festival site.
