BASINGSTOKE Choral Society’s (BCS) next Anvil concert will showcase relatively new choral work Mass In Blue.

Will Todd’s jazz-inspired Mass in Blue by had its first performance in 2003. Todd’s flagship work is an upbeat jazz setting of the Latin Mass for SATB choir and soprano soloist which has been performed more than a hundred times around the world.

Will Todd is a British composer and pianist who has worked at the Royal Opera House, The Lincoln Center in New York, London's Barbican and with award winning choirs The Sixteen, the BBC Singers, Welsh National Opera and international clarinettist Emma Johnson.

He has been playing the piano since he was three and composing since he was seven years old. His output includes works for choir, stage works, and orchestral works, many of which have been featured on both BBC Radio and Classic FM.

Will Todd’s work has been performed all over the United Kingdom as well as at the Edinburgh Festival and the New York Music Theatre Festival. His music is regularly broadcast on both BBC Radio 3 and 4.

BCS were delighted to join him for a workshop prior to their Anvil performance.

Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms will also be part of the programme on Sunday, June 14 at 7pm.

This particular work was originally commissioned for the Southern Cathedrals Festival and had its English premiere in Chichester Cathedral, with BCS’s own conductor, David Gibson, singing the part of the boy treble.

This programme promises to be a really exciting one, combining the best of choral music with the excitement of the modern jazz style.
