IT’S now 80 years since the formation of the Count Basie Orchestra, probably the most iconic Big Band of all time.

Back by popular demand, the IJO Big Band return to The Haymarket next week with Basie’s greatest hits for an evening to celebrate the mastery of the Count and his musicians.

Enjoy once again many of their timeless classics from the pens of his great arrangers including Sammy Nestico, Neal Hefti, Quincy Jones.

This concert, on Saturday April 25 at 7.30pm, will also feature his hits with Frank Sinatra, Joe Williams and Ella Fitzgerald.

Innovations Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2000 and currently consists of 20 regular musicians who enjoy playing big band, swing and jazz music.

IJO rehearses weekly in Tadley, near Basingstoke and the sound of the band in full swing is something to behold.

Its members are inspired by Sinatra, Basie, Ellington, Fitzgerald and the love of this golden era of music is shared amongst all the band members.

IJO was formed to capture the very best of this genre of music whilst taking a broad-minded approach to the repertoire to include not only some of the greats, but also tunes that perhaps don't get heard too often in big band music.

Tickets for the concert, priced £12, are available from the box office on 01256 844244 or online at anvilarts.org.uk.
