THE Blockheads have been announced as the headline act at an annual music festival held in Whitchurch.

The 1970s English rock and roll band will take to the stage at Rockus – an afternoon and evening of live entertainment in the town.

Three stages will be set up at Longmeadow Arena, at Whitchurch Sports and Social Club, where various other bands will also entertain the crowds from 1pm until late on Saturday, May 2.

The Blockheads, who sang Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, have performed in the area before when they headlined the main stage at Basingstoke Live in 2011.

They enjoyed huge success in the late 1970s with lead singer Ian Dury, who died in 2000 following a battle with cancer.

The band still tour and are currently recording their new album.

Marie Page, who manages the line-up for the event, said: “We sold out last year, which was amazing, but this year’s event looks to be bigger than ever as we are up on capacity.

“We’re keeping the same format so all the bands are in one large arena rotating around three stages, meaning you will get to see every band rather than having to make choices.

“We’ve got some awesome bands already confirmed and managing to secure The Blockheads shows we’re serious about growing our festival.”

Tickets cost £15 for adults and £10 for 13 to 17-year-olds.
