ONE of the great works of European literature has been transformed into a magical new opera by Swansea City Opera for their 10th anniversary tour.
This production of Faust is a rare opportunity to see Gounod’s finest work, sung in English.
This dark Gothic tale follows the fortunes of Faust, who weary of life, is contemplating suicide when he encounters Méphistophélès (the Devil). Faust agrees to exchange his soul for eternal youth and the fulfilment of his hedonistic wishes.
The resulting journey balances romance and temptation; and is widely regarded as a magical and tuneful masterpiece, based on Goethe’s dramatic poem Faust.
This production is set in the Victorian Gothic era and accompanied by chamber orchestra.
Faust contains many well-known musical highlights including The Jewel Song and the Soldiers Chorus, which will be performed by some of the finest singers and orchestral players in the country.
It follows on from Swansea City Opera’s highly acclaimed 2014 production of The Marriage of Figaro and is an ideal introduction for those new to opera.
The production comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Friday, March 13 at 7.30pm.
Tickets: £23.00, Concs. £20.50, Friends £20.00 Schools/Groups £10.50.
