BASINGSTOKE Lions Club, which is now in its fifteenth year of staging concerts which raise money for good causes in the local area, has released details of its new season.

All concerts take place in Queen Mary’s College, Cliddesden Road.

The first event of the new season takes place on February 21 with the return of the hugely-popular ABBA Sensation. Their performances are always memorable occasions when the audience can get fully involved in the fun.

This year the group will be playing the full ABBA repertoire. A great time will be had by all. Why not bring a group of friends and let your hair down?

May 2 sees another return visit, this time of The Heritage Light Orchestra led by Neil Streeter.

The concept of bringing together almost 40 local musicians and singers happened for the first time on the Lions stage two years ago and has been progressively developed since with appearances elsewhere in the district.

That so many players can come together so infrequently and perform to such a high standard is a wonder in itself. This will be a night to remember.

On September 26, The Hampshire Guitar Orchestra, led by Derek Hasted, will take to the stage.

This unique assembly of 14 guitars – four different types - were a great success when they shared a platform with Basingstoke Rock Choir. This time they have the floor to themselves.

They normally appear in the south of the county and this is a rare opportunity to see them in Basingstoke. The orchestra has a wide and varied repertoire.

The Hampshire Police Band conclude the year’s entertainment on November 7 with a festival of popular music by a distinguished company of experienced musicians.

This will be the Band’s third visit to the Lions stage after a two year absence.

Maurice Hockley from the club said: “Thousands of pounds have gone towards improving individual situations brought to the attention of the Lions by statutory or voluntary bodies.

“In addition, substantial donations from the proceeds of these concerts have been made from time to time to assist projects that have a community benefit.

“The good people of Basingstoke have been generous in their support of these events and have enjoyed the wide range of quality entertainment at reasonable prices that has been provided.”

Tickets for these individual shows are £12 each. The season price drops to £10 per ticket if you book for three or more of the individual performances.
