I HAD seen the opening band before and was quite impressed, so felt that I had to come back for seconds.
These guys are a youngish screamo band from Basingstoke by the name of Sinister Horizons.
They are a pretty lively foursome, straddling the creative line between metal and hard-core. The band are pretty tight and well co-ordinated with a nice mix of vocals shared around all members.
They got a pretty positive reception from a moderate crowd. Mind you, I had to ding them a point for their Limp Bizkit cover. It’s not that it was a bad cover – I am just a pathological hater of cover material.
Sinister Horizons were followed by London progressive rock band The Colors, who could not explain the Transatlantic spelling – perhaps it’s a branding issue.
They were very impressive, I have to say, with the songs coming on thick and fast, no tedious pauses and all the material was pretty energetic.
Whilst it wasn’t particularly heavy, it did have a bit of spirit and energy to grab the attention. The headline band, also from London, were Through and Throughout. These guys were pop punk in nature, although, to be honest, there was not a lot different in style between them and the previous band.
I suppose their material did bounce along with a bit more of a spring in its step, but that was marginal. They were really together and the banter with the crowd proved they had some fans who had made the trek to catch them. These “Three on Thursdays” nights do offer a good opportunity to introduce new bands, either local, or not so local, to the good people of Basingstoke.
