COMEDIAN Mark Steel has been out and about in town doing some research for his forthcoming Haymarket show which will be recorded for broadcast on Radio 4.
While on a fact-finding mission before next Tuesday’s performance, Mark met up with local historian Bob Clarke and his son Sheridan, who is a member of the Basingstoke Awareness and Knowledge Exchange, B-AWAKE, for a pint at the Bounty Inn.
He also popped over to the Civic Offices to meet with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council chief executive Tony Curtis and Basingstoke rowing legend Dave Holby.
Destination Basingstoke managing director Felicity Edwards gave Mark a tour around the town centre.
The avid cricket fan, who also paid a visit to May’s Bounty cricket ground, said: “The Bounty, John Arlott, a pointless rude statue, eight million shops and ten million roundabouts. Now that's a town!”
Mark will return to Basingstoke on Tuesday, October 4, to appear at The Haymarket for a stand-up show Mark Steel’s in Town, where he will discuss his findings.
The show begins at 7.15pm and is suitable only for those aged 16 and over.
