ANYONE who missed the stunning production of Journey’s End, which opened in Basingstoke’s Haymarket theatre in January, can now catch it in Winchester.
RC Sherriff’s classic First World War drama is running at Theatre Royal Winchester on March 30 and 31, with a remarkable set and cast including Graham Seed (The Archers) and Adam Best (Holby City).
The play is set in 1918 in the rat-infested trenches of northern France where a world-weary Captain Stanhope is confronted with his past as an old schoolmate joins his platoon.
As the offensive looms ever nearer, Stanhope must inspire his men to make the ultimate sacrifice for a war he no longer understands.
The play premiered in the West End 81 years ago and is based on RC Sherriff’s own experiences in the trenches, with its heroism, humour and inevitable tragedy.
This new touring production by Icarus Theatre Collective and Original Theatre Company stays true to the original play, and sets the cast in a realistic dugout which will fill the theatre will the sights and sounds of The Great War.
It is recommended for anyone aged 11 years and over and tickets, which are priced from £17.50 – with concessions and matinee tickets available – can be booked from the box office, on 01962 840440, or online at theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk.
