A BUNCH of Basingstoke rugby players have been recruited to perform a particularly energetic dance number at The Haymarket this week.
Five players in Basingstoke’s under-11 team will be joining the cast of the Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society’s (BAOS) production of Hello, Dolly! to perform the Waiter’s Gallop.
Chris May-Miller, Ben Sheath, Miles Pope, Monty Morgan and Victor Carpio have been rehearsing their number, which involves running and jumping and a human pyramid.
Sixteen-year-old Chris, of Lightfoot Grove, Cranbourne, Basingstoke, was involved in BAOS’ 2008 production of Fiddler on the Roof.
He said: “My mum’s a member of the society and she asked me if I knew anyone who might be up for it. There were about 10 people from the club who were interested, but the five of us could make all the dates and were the most interested. Ben, Miles and I also have another little part in the show.”
The Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College student added: “It’s quite scary but we are looking forward to it.”
Hello, Dolly! is playing at The Haymarket from tomorrow until Saturday, and more information about tickets is available from The Anvil Arts box office, on 01256 844244 or online at anvilarts.org.uk.
