TWO of the most celebrated ballets are being performed in Basingstoke this month by The Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia.
The company, which was formed in 1978, will be mesmerising audiences at The Anvil with Swan Lake on Sunday 7 and Monday 8 February, and Sleeping Beauty on February 9.
The company was formed by talented graduates from choreographic schools in Moscow, Leningrad (St. Petersburg), Kiev, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk).
The company is proud of its talented young dancers, who are highly-acclaimed worldwide for their unique interpretation of both dramatic and comic roles, delivering performances of sincere emotional and dramatic integrity.
The popular Swan Lake captures the full range of human emotions like no other – from hope to despair, from terror to tenderness, from melancholy to ecstasy.
This is the third production of Swan Lake in the history of the company.
From a choregraphic point of view, The Sleeping Beauty is rich in many different styles, authentic court dances, elements of romantic ballet in the vision scene, classical ballet technique and abstraction, mimed scenes, grand processions, character and folk dances. This is one of the most famous ballets, and the music and dancing are known around the world.
Tickets for performances, which start at 7.30pm, can be booked at the Anvil Arts box office, on 01256 844244, or online at anvilarts.org.uk.
