An exhibition of note from John

THE work of Basingstoke artist John White is currently on display at Fairfields Arts Centre.

Born in 1932, the artist trained at the Central School of Art and Design in London and served an apprenticeship with Thomas De La Rue in security print designing, specialising in banknote and stamp design.

He moved from London to Basingstoke with De La Rue in 1969, and has lived in the town ever since.

Mr White, who has been a member of Basingstoke Art Club since 1970, served in the RAF, doing photo-plotting for aerial reconnaissance, and his designs for banknotes while at De La Rue have been used for different countries around the world.

His art and design work – which reflects his design background – has been exhibited in London Guildhall Art Gallery, in the Wessex Artist show in Southampton Gallery, and in a Southern Arts touring exhibition, as well as in Basingstoke.

The free exhibition is running at Fairfields Arts Centre, in Council Road, Basingstoke, until February 18.

More information about the venue is available by calling 01256 321621, or is online at fairfields.org.
