A SUMMER of love is set to descend on Basingstoke.

The Proteus Creation Space is set to deliver a range of different performances all centred around the theme of love.

Run by the Proteus Theatre Company Limited, the creation space, based in Council Road, Eastrop, will bring a host of in-house productions and touring shows to Basingstoke, all with a bit of a quirky feel.

The recently voted Best Theatre/Arts Venue in the Muddy Stilettos Muddy Hants Awards 2018, aims to bring high-quality performances, but at affordable prices to Basingstoke.

Marketing manger for the Proteus Theatre Company, Mary George, told The Gazette: “We want everyone to experience different types of performance and theatre, they is why we bring in productions which have had great success in London, but aren’t charging London prices.

“But what we want to ensure is that even though they are affordable these performances are of the highest possible quality.”

Proteus’ summer season kicks off on Thursday, 7 June with Sarah Blanc’s It Started With Jason Donovan. In this one-woman show, Blanc recounts her past dating life through the songs of her first love – Jason Donovan.

The Proteans will return once again for a summer performance of Shakespeare, this year bringing to life the bard’s Twelfth Night with their own unique twist, which will run from June 15 – June 17 at the Walled Garden, at the Down Grange Sports Complex.

As this is the summer of love, if you are looking for love, why not try out the Binaural Dinner Date, at the Tea Bar, in the Top of The Town on Thursday 21, June. Part interactive performance, part dating agency, the event invites genuine applications from individuals looking for love, or existing couples who want a different dating experience, where a voice in your ear will tell you how to act and behave.

Proteus’ creative producer, Fergus Evans, has been key to bringing this season together.

He said: “I’m really excited to be welcoming these artists to Basingstoke, and for the opportunity to introduce our audiences to these world-class companies.

“While each show is different, what I like is that each one is funny, sexy, and spectacular – just what you need in the summer months.”
