FOLLOWING a hugely successful performance to an audience of almost 800 people at the Anvil last November, Basingstoke Choral Society will return for another showcase at the same venue.

The Basingstoke Choral Society will be joined for this concert by the Croydon Philharmonic Choir making a choir of around 250 singers, led by David Gibson, musical director and conductor of both societies.

Held on Saturday, the concert will feature Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, the one he himself named as his favourite, along with Brahms’ beautiful and moving Ein Deutsches Requiem.

Soloists for this performance are Laura Oldfield and Gareth Brynmor John, both established and highly acclaimed singers.

Laura has sung with the Monteverdi Choir, as well as being a soloist in Britten’s War Requiem under the baton of Simon Rattle.

Winner of the Kathleen Ferrier award, Gareth has sung a number of operatic roles as well as taking part in a variety of choral works, such as Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and the Dream of Gerontius by Elgar.

The concert has a little bit of everything for music lovers to enjoy; a professional orchestra, soloists and conductor and a massed choir. Add to this the most sublime and beautiful music one could ever wish for, it is an event not to be missed.

With no Dancing on Ice to watch this coming weekend make your way down to The Anvil, on Saturday evening, to take this opportunity to hear live music at its best.

Tickets, start at £12, and are available from the Anvil box office on 01256 844244 or at anvilarts.org.uk.
