THIS year’s performance from the Basingstoke Amateur Dramatic Society (BAOS) will soon be taking place.

BAOS is returning to The Haymarket with a production of the classic Fiddler on the Roof.

With a cast including members old and new, BAOS are proud to present this timeless musical to Basingstoke and North Hampshire audiences. They are also joined by talented youngsters from their youth company, BAOS Limelight.

Fiddler on the Roof is a much-loved story, set in 1905 in the small, tradition-steeped Jewish village of Anatevka. Throughout the show, time-honoured traditions are both embraced and challenged by dairyman Tevye and his colourful community, as they witness his daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, and Chava, grow up and fall in love in a time of change in Russia.

Fiddler on the Roof’s premiere in 1964 saw the musical become the longest-running Broadway musical in history, a title it maintained for almost ten years. It is the love and humour woven through the story that has filled audiences with hope, faith, charity and warmth for generations, and keeps this story alive today.

New to BAOS but not to the show, Raymond Burton is set to play the iconic role of Tevye for the 13th time. And as his straight-talking wife, Golde, is long-standing member and current BAOS Chairperson, Kathy May-Miller.

BAOS’s Fiddler of the Roof is directed by Richard Cox, following on from his emotive West Side Story with BAOS in 2016. He is expertly complemented by Trevor Defferd as musical director, who brings his wealth of experience from across a wide variety of shows over the years.

Featuring songs such as the beautiful Sunrise, Sunset, the boisterous If I Were a Rich Man, and the classic Matchmaker, Matchmaker, BAOS's energetic, thought-provoking production will have you both crying and laughing.

Fiddler on the Roof runs from March 13 – 17 at The Haymarket, Basingstoke. Tickets can be purchased online at www.anvilarts.org.uk, or by calling the box office on 01256 844244.
