THE Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra returns to The Anvil on Thursday, 18 January, conducted by Matthew Halls, and with clarinet soloist Andreas Ottensamer, principal clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

The evening begins with Mozart’s Symphony no 35 (Haffner) - its dashing warm, slow first movement and gracious minuet are capped by a brilliant “perpetual motion” finale.

This is follow by two engaging clarinet concertos by the father and son J and C Stamitz, as heard on Andreas Ottensamer’s latest recording New Era.

The concert ends with Dvo?ák’s delightful and melodic Symphony no. 5

There is a free pre-concert talk with Andreas Ottensamer in conversation. Booking is essential.

Explore a haunting, deserted island shrouded in mystery in Dear Esther at The Anvil on Saturday, 27 January.

In this ground-breaking and intriguing event, the acclaimed video game unfolds on a huge screen with the score performed live by musicians on stage and real time unique game play.

The game, with its rich and exciting visuals, starts on a small beach, only brooding cliffs and a small lighthouse in sight; the narrator then takes you through the game, from this desolate Scottish island, through a car crash and the crisis of a guilty heart, to the lost shores of a dreamed coastline.

All is accompanied by the live performance of BAFTA-winning composer Jessica Curry’s powerful score.

Originally released in 2012, Dear Esther quickly gained critical acclaim for abandoning traditional game play in favour of atmosphere and rich storytelling.

Some people have yet to realise that games can engage you emotionally. Games music is bringing in new audiences, and successfully transforms a solitary experience into a concert hall-sized spectacle.

Be one of the first to enjoy this exciting new genre.
