FROM Spandau Ballet to EastEnders to Celebrity Big Brother, Martin Kemp has had a successful and varied career to date.

Now the Londoner wants to give something back to the fans, by hosting an intimate ‘audience with’ evening at the Anvil on September 22.

Having been on screen and stage from the age of seven, Kemp has lots of stories he wants to share, which may not be public knowledge and told The Gazette the show will be him talking candidly about his life.

He said: “I want people to come away feeling like we have just had dinner together and they have got me reminiscing.”

After talking at length about his star-studded tales about his career, Kemp will open the floor of Basingstoke’s premier theatre and hold a Q&A session after the show.

During this period, the 55-year-old said that he expects there to be no holding back and that he will give as an honest answer as possible.

He added: “I expected to be asked everything, from the ups and downs in my private life to the high points of Spandau, the Krays and Steve Owen.

“The curveballs questions are the best as it gets me thinking on my feet and remembering stories for the first time.”

With the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother coming to its conclusion last week, Kemp, who appeared on the show in 2012 with the likes of Coleen Nolan, Julian Clary and Samantha Brick, has been keeping a keen eye on this year’s contestants.

“I was a big fan of that show when I went on it but watching this new series I’m glad I’m not in with those guys,” added the Spandau Ballet bass player.

“So much drama.”

Kemp confesses that he loves to keep himself busy and the line of work he is doing varied, something he says is the ‘spice of life’.

And after being a child actor, having achieved numerous top 20 hits in Spandau Ballet with songs like Gold, True and Through the Barricades, and being one of the most recognisable faces on arguably the UK’s most successful soap, careers don’t get much more varied than Kemp’s.

This idea of keeping things fresh has been exactly what has spurred the actor on to do more of these ‘audience with shows’.

Kemp said: “It started off as two shows and we have now done over sixty.

“I just want people get to know me and have a laugh, because that’s what I do it for.

“I encourage people to just come and have fun with me.”

Kemp will be at the Anvil on September 22, with tickets costing £24 or £50 for the post-show meet and greet.

Meet and greet tickets are only available directly through the box office by phone or in person For more information or to buy a ticket visit anvilarts.org.uk.
