A RADIO station that broadcasts to hospital patients has been nominated for a record-breaking number of awards.

Hospital Radio Basingstoke (HRB) is up for seven awards at this year’s The National Hospital Broadcasting Awards, with the nominations announced by Alan Dedicoat – the ‘voice of the balls’ for the National Lottery and the Strictly Come Dancing announcer – on New Year’s Day.

HRB, which broadcasts to Basingstoke hospital patients and staff, has been shortlisted in seven categories including Best Male, Best Female, Best Show with Multiple Presenters, Best Specialist Show and Station of the Year, making it the second most nominated station across the whole of the UK in 2016. Other nominations are Best Special Event Coverage, for the broadcasting of the Magna Carta Festival in Odiham, and Best Speech Package for when Basingstoke MP Maria Miller came to visit the station to answer questions from patients and staff at the hospital in Aldermaston Road

HRB has been broadcasting to Basingstoke Hospital for more than 40 years.
Dave Warren, chairman of the charity, who has been nominated for Best Male, said: “I am delighted with the record achievement the station has, and very proud of all the fantastic volunteers who have worked all year round to make this happen. These nominations are just a small aspect of all the fantastic things that happen at Hospital Radio Basingstoke.”

The Bronze, Silver and Gold winners for each category will be announced at a Gala Awards ceremony in Watford on March 19.
