THE opening gala film for this year’s Eastleigh Film Festival has been announced.

Film fans voted for their favourite from a selection made by BBC Film 2015 critic Danny Leigh.

In a close contest, Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas was runner up to John Landis’ classic 1980s horror An American Werewolf in London.

The festival will run from September 21 – 26.

Danny, who will attend the gala night on September 21 said: “I’ve always been given nightmares of the best kind by An American Werewolf in London, so it’s great to know I can come and share its terrifying pleasures at this year’s festival.”

An American Werewolf in London is rated 15.

This year’s festival includes preview screenings, online screenings and careers advice.

Among the other classic films being screened are Ghostbusters (in Eastleigh Fire Station) and Sister Act (in Eastleigh Baptist Church).

Tickets for the gala, which starts at 7pm, are £5.

They can be booked online by visiting eastleighfilmfestival.com or by calling the box office on 023 8065 2333.

Eastleigh Film Festival is curated by The Point and this year is supported by Arts Council England and Eastleigh Business Improvement District.
