ASPIRING writers of all ages have been sending in their entries for the Henley Literary Festival Story in a teacup.
The deadline is August 31.
The competition was launched by specialist tea brand Dragonfly Tea in conjunction with the festival in June.
Prizes of up to £2,500 for adults and £250-worth of book vouchers for children are up for grabs.
The judging panel includes Jojo Moyes, the award-winning author of Me Before You, Helen Lederer, the Absolutely Fabulous star and comedian who recently published her first novel and Lauren Child, the bestselling Clarice Bean and Charlie & Lola creator.
In celebration of the little green tea leaf, adult entrants are invited to write a story of up to 3,000 words, taking one of Dragonfly’s delightfully evocative tea names as inspiration: Emerald Mountain, Green Gaucho, Moonlight Jasmine or Swirling Mist.
The three winning entrants will take home prizes ranging from £250 to £2,500. A flash fiction competition will reward the authors of the best 500-word stories with £250-£750.
The children’s competition has two categories, both with a 500-word limit: 5-10 years-old and 11-15 years-old.
Taking Dragonfly’s Skinny Dragon tea as the title of their story, entrants are encouraged to let their imagination take flight – the winner will receive £50 book vouchers plus £200 of vouchers for their school.
Entry to the competitions is free.
