ALL of the description in the world fails to do justice to this fantastic little exhibition from the Embroiderer's Guild Basingstoke Branch– you simply have to see it in person for yourself.

The diversity of the work on display, all of it produced by local craftspeople, is incredible.

There are miniature quilts, bags, scarves, books, needle cases, cushions and much more to see, all in the display space upstairs in the Top of the Town museum.

As you arrive at the door of the gallery, the piece entitled Basingstoke and Deane – Through the Eye of A Needle, which is displayed immediately in front of your eyes, certainly demands your attention.

It’s big and beautiful, as is Mary Klinger’s bold and bright stitched canvas panel.

But there are lots of other smaller gems to inspect and admire over every surface of the space, including a lovely display by the youth section of the guild.

Pauline Norris has a number of pieces on show, including a stunning multimedia painted textile on calico which is a tribute to her brother Brian, who loved Africa.

The intricacy of Sue Oakham’s embroidered mushrooms (below) and the Garden of Eden covered book by Jenny McCue, which was inspired by the Rudyard Kilping poem The Gardener, are hugely impressive.

The creativity displayed by Olwyn Pearson in the piece Yorkshire Wall, which is partially composed of egg boxes, is equally admirable.
