HOW did the profound tragedy that was the First World War impact on Basingstoke?

Local writer David Stewart has some of the answers.

He has studied the lives and deaths of all 233 men who died in that conflict and whose names are recorded on Basingstoke’s war memorial.

On Thursday, June 18, he will outline his findings in a talk entitled ‘Researching the fallen of Basingstoke’.

The talk will take place at the Willis Museum starting at 7.30pm sharp.

Admission is free to Friends of the Museum, and costs £2 for non-members.

Non-members must reserve seats at least two days advance.
