A HAMPSHIRE artist has won this year’s Sherfield Gallery Open Exhibition.
The work was judged by last year’s winner, Basingstoke’s Luis Morris, the gallery’s artist-in-residence Lee-Anne Hampson, and and Dick Jaine, the headmaster of Sherfield School.
Mark Michael, a Southampton-based artist, was declared the winner and he’ll now be given the opportunity of a solo show of his work in the gallery in April 2016.
Mark said: “As a painter my work is heavily influenced by my training as a sculptor and I use humour and satire to counter-balance often challenging subject matter.
“As my work has progressed I have begun incorporating my love of the written word within my paintings experimenting with regimented and repetitive textual effects.”
The Open Exhibition can be seen in the gallery until March 12, by appointment Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.
