CELEBRATE National Libraries Day at Basingstoke Discovery Centre.

The town centre library, located in Festival Place, has a range of events planned for Saturday, February 7.

From 10am until 12pm, take part in free Harry Potter activities.

Make a free broomstick bookmark, take part in the hunt for Dobby’s socks, a Harry Potter prize quiz and various colouring activities throughout the day. From 11am to 2pm, come and find out what else goes on in the Discovery Centre.

The regular reading, creative writing and poetry groups will be holding extraordinary meetings to show just what they are about.

Meet the Knit & Knatterers, the card makers, painters and crafters too and there will be lots of free things to try out.

At 2pm, local actor and poet Bryn Strudwick will hold a recital, reading and performing a selection of poetry to celebrate the joy of words and language. Tickets are £2.

Always enjoyed singing? Wanted to have a go but worried about auditions? Join Jo Bolam at 2pm for a ‘Come and Sing’ session and have some fun with simple pop and folk songs for all ages and abilities.

No experience required - just a willingness to give it a go. Tickets are £3.

To book a ticket for the recital and singing workshop, order online from the Hanstweb shop, contact 01256 478670, or purchase a ticket from the Help Desk in the Discovery Centre.
