THE British Museum’s nationwide tour Made in China: an imperial Ming vase arrives in Basingstoke today.
The tour will visit The Willis Museum in Market Place until April 4. It's a celebration of Chinese collections across the UK, exploring the impact that the Ming dynasty has had on the arts in China and across the world.
Among the highlights of the exhibition will be the display of the largest Ming imperial porcelain vase in the British Museum’s collection.
The blue-and-white vase, which stands at just over 50cm tall – has an ornate lotus flower design and has long been prized by collectors both in Britain and across the world.
Artist Jeremy Miller has produced a film in response to the exhibit, following a trip to the region in China where the Ming vase originated. It will be displayed alongside the vase in the gallery.
Janet Owen, chief executive officer of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be included on this special spotlight tour. It is exciting to welcome international art and culture to our county.”
The Willis Museum is open Tuesday – Friday 10am-5pm and between 10am-4pm on Saturdays.
Admission is free.
