THE acclaimed Soldiers’ Journey exhibition comes to an end at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke this week.

The exhibition, which has been running since October, has seen hundreds of visitors explore Hampshire’s history and it is due to close on Sunday, January 11.

Soldiers’ Journey showcases the county’s critical contribution to the First World War and narrates the true stories of military and civilian soldiers from the area.

The exhibition features many unique and personal artifacts, and visitors have the chance to solve the mystery of the German spy, make friends with a war horse and write their own war diaries.

The exhibition, which is funded by Arts Council England, also features extensive audio recordings of people who lived in the county during the war as well as video footage and themed activities for children.

Janet Owen, Chief Executive of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: “The Soldiers’ Journey exhibition has shown a wonderful side of Basingstoke’s rich history over the last few months and I urge anyone who hasn’t visited to do so as this exhibition will not be seen again.

“We’ve received some fantastic feedback from visitors and staff alike, who have been moved by the stories and have relished the opportunity to learn more about Hampshire during wartime.”

Soldiers' Journey is part of Hampshire’s Big Theme, a series of exhibitions to mark the centenary of the First World War.
