HEAD to Basingstoke's historic Top of the Town tonight, Friday, December 5, for a special festive evening. 

The entertainment begins at 5pm and many of the area's businesses will be open until 8pm for late night Christmas shopping. 

Meet Father Christmas and receive an eco-gift in his grotto at Aspiral on Church Street. There will also be real reindeer and an owl in Market Place. 

Children can take the Christmas trail with Pandora's Box - complete the trail and claim a free festive treat.

The programme of entertainment: 

5pm - opening ceremony featuring the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Roger Gardiner. Father Christmas will arrive in his grotto. 

5.15pm - Basingstoke Area Junior Choir with Four Lanes Community Junior Choir. This performance will conclude with a bi-lingual version of Silent Night to commemorate the famous WWI Christmas truce in the trenches. 

6pm - Scratch Built Productions will preview their new show Father Christmas' Christmas List, which is coming to the Proteus Creation Space from December 18-24. 

6.30pm - The Lynden School of Dance

7pm - Basingstoke Rock Choir

7.30pm - The Salvation Army Brass Band
