SCHOOLCHILDREN all over Basingstoke will have the opportunity to take part in the world’s biggest youth film festival when it comes to town in November.

The town’s cinemas, ODEON at the Leisure Park and Vue Cinemas in Festival Place, will host 16 screenings including X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Armstrong Lie, Frozen, Leave to Remain and Coraline as part of the 2014 Into Film Festival, which is aimed at five – 19 year-olds.

The festival will arrive in the area between November 4 and November 21 and these free screenings are open to schools, colleges and youth leaders.

Teachers will have access to teaching resources related to the films. The event, hosted by education charity Into Film and supported by Cinema First and the BFI through Lottery funding, is part of a UK-wide ongoing initiative to use the medium of film and filmmaking as a learning tool.

The programme features new and classic films, workshops and Q&A sessions with industry professionals and supported by a range of educational resources to promote discussion and debate around the films.

Actor and Into Film supporter Michael Sheen said: “When you're watching a film it feels like you're being entertained but at the same time it's a window to the world of other cultures, other possibilities.

“The Into Film Festival is a great thing for young people to go to as together with their peers they can sit in a cinema watching a whole range of films, films that they usually wouldn't have access to or wouldn't choose for themselves, and connect with the film industry through special events.”

Teachers and educators can explore the full programme and book for the screenings, events and workshops online now at IntoFilm.org/festival.
