SEE a 100 year-old Thornycroft 'J' type lorry outside the Top of the Town's museum this week.
The vehicle will be outside the Willis Museum on Friday between 11am and 2pm and this is a rare opportunity to see such a historic vehicle. Only a few are left in military livery.
Two highly skilled volunteers - working with Nigel Spender, Collections Officer at Hampshire County Council Arts and Museums Service - have spent more than eight months carrying out an extensive restoration programme.
The ‘J’ type lorry is one of over 5000 made in Basingstoke by John I Thornycroft & Co during the First World War and it was delivered to the War Office in 1916 for use in France.
On the front line, it was used to deliver supplies - such as shells, ammunition and food - to the soldiers in the trenches.
