A HAMPSHIRE military training area provided the backdrop to scenes for sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow, which is in cinemas now.

The film's stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt shot scenes for the alien combat movie at a former army base in Barton Stacey, near Andover.

They set up camp for two and a half weeks in November and December 2012.

Filming was facilitated through Film Hampshire, which has 400 film locations on its books.

In the first half of this year alone, film and television producers have spent over £6 million while shooting in Hampshire – bringing significant benefits to local businesses.

The Film Hampshire archive also includes Les Misérables, Skyfall, World War Z, The Da Vinci Code and Downton Abbey.

And, as reported in The Gazette in 2013 and 2014, George Clooney and Matt Damon filmed scenes from Monuments Men at Bramley army camp.
